What is the Provencal Style

The Provencal style, as stated earlier, is one that makes direct reference to Provence, southern France.

It was the local artisans between the 16th and 17th centuries who built what we now know as a style of decoration.Β With the intention of resembling the nobility of the time, the peasants began to build furniture with the same characteristics as those found in the palaces.Β However, the lack of resources forced them to use inferior wood and, over time, fatally became worn out.

Unbeknownst to them, this naturally worn feature of wood would become the basis of the Provencal decor we love so much.

Rustic and Aged Looking Furniture

In addition to the rustic look, Provencal furniture also usually has frames around doors and drawers.Β Another feature of this furniture is the handles. The most common is the ball-shaped ones, usually made of wood or porcelain, but you can still choose those in the shape of a handle or shell.

To complete the Provencal look of the kitchen, bet on a wooden or stone countertop such as granite or marble, preferably in light and soft hues.

Neutral and Soft Colors

You may have already noticed that light, neutral and pastel colors are the most used in the decoration of the Provencal kitchen.Β White is what stands out most and is often the basis of the project.Β But the pastel shades of blue, yellow and pink are not out of this style.

Those who prefer modern Provencal cuisine can opt for shades of gray and even black, breaking the romanticism and delicacy of the Provencal style.

The color palette is very important to ensure the Provencal style.Β The different shades chosen will be used in every corner of the kitchen, from walls, ceiling, and floor, to cabinets and small decorative objects.

Floral Prints

Impossible to speak of Provencal cuisine without mentioning the floral prints.Β This is one of the biggest features of this style.Β You can bet on floral prints on tablecloths, tea towels, curtains, wallpapers, napkins and even the upholstery of chairs.

But preferably for the soft tone prints and delicate flowers.

Setting up a Provencal kitchen is not so difficult, you just need to focus to pan the right pieces.Β And to make you even more inspired, we have selected 60 images of Provencal cuisine that are a true cuddle in the heart, take a look:
