An Urban Sanctuary with Botanical Views

In the heart of Astana’s prestigious House on Botanicheskiy residential complex, Kvadrat Architects have designed a refined 160 m² flat that elevates the concept of urban tranquility. Overlooking the city’s Botanical Garden, the apartment offers sweeping views of natural greenery framed by floor-to-ceiling windows—a perfect juxtaposition to Kazakhstan’s dynamic, fast-changing capital.

The design responds to the clients’ desire to recreate the feeling of spacious, nature-connected living they were accustomed to in their former suburban home. Without depending on excessive square footage, the architects used intelligent planning, layered materials, and visual openness to make the space feel twice its size.

Nature-Inspired Interior Design

The apartment features a calming palette drawn from the surrounding landscape. The designers, Rustam Minnehanov and Sergey Bekmukhanbetov, crafted a color scheme that draws from natural earth tones, eucalyptus green, river stone gray, and warm whites.

  • Clay-Painted Walls: Powdery, tactile finishes add warmth and texture.

  • Silver River Marble: Evokes natural water flow, grounding the space in organic patterns.

  • Natural Textiles: Rich fabrics like Loro Piana cashmere bring softness and elegance to minimalist forms.

  • Color Accents: Autumnal reds and wine-toned linen doors provide subtle contrast while maintaining a harmonious feel.

These biophilic choices connect the interiors emotionally to the natural views just outside the window.

Open-Plan Luxury Meets Functional Zoning

Though compact at 160 m², the flat is arranged for optimal comfort and fluid living. Strategic zoning maximizes space while maintaining a cohesive design language.

Living Area

An open-plan layout features a sculptural Westside Poliform modular sofa, perfectly positioned for entertaining or quiet contemplation. Its curved lines soften the geometry of the space, creating a welcoming, elegant centerpiece.

Primary Bedroom

Positioned for maximum views of the Botanical Garden, the master bedroom is a retreat of serenity. Historical-look parquet flooring and soft furnishings evoke a European estate ambiance, framed by dual windows that capture the beauty of every season.

Guest Bedroom / Home Office

This multi-use space retains the apartment’s natural materials and tone, yet feels more practical. A blend of wooden panels, parquet floors, and integrated cabinetry supports both productivity and relaxation.

Walk-In Wardrobe

Rarely does a closet get such prime positioning—but here, it’s treated like a room of its own. With panoramic views, glass-panelled Poliform wardrobes, and linen-upholstered doors in a bold wine shade, it becomes a standout feature of the home.

Master Bathroom

A highlight of the apartment, the bathroom offers a spa-like escape, divided into two distinct zones. One houses the sanitary facilities; the other, a lavish bath and hammam-style shower. Granite walls with jagged textures form sculptural surfaces, while parquet flooring in the bathroom delivers a warm, tactile surprise underfoot.

A Dialogue with Astana’s Changing Urban Identity

Astana’s skyline is still shaping its architectural identity. In that vacuum, Kvadrat Architects opted for timelessness over trends. Their approach is subtle, nuanced, and deeply personal—a quiet resistance to the noise of modern high-rise minimalism.

“There’s no dominant architectural language in Astana, so we focused on materials and emotion rather than style,” say the architects.
“Our aim was to create a space that felt generous, even poetic.”
