In Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, the Good House (Casa O BEM) by Rodrigo Vilas Boas Arquitetos emerges as a contemporary retreat seamlessly integrated into its natural setting. Completed in 2022, the 11,226-square-foot residence is set within a vast 46,700 m² property in Serra das Cabras, designed to embrace breathtaking panoramic views while ensuring privacy from neighboring houses and the street.
Harnessing the Slope for Design and Privacy
The house was strategically placed on a steep slope, turning a challenging site into a defining architectural advantage. Elevated living spaces capitalize on uninterrupted views of preserved nature, while the slope itself acts as a natural barrier, shielding the home from external visibility. From the street, the horizon remains visible, preserving the landscape’s continuity.
Architectural Composition
The residence is organized into two interconnected volumes, positioned at different heights to follow the land’s contours. An elevated gourmet terrace ensures air circulation, channeling the south winds across the property while providing shelter from harsh sun and rain.
The entrance hall immediately frames the sweeping horizon, inviting visitors to engage with the landscape upon arrival. Throughout, the architecture balances solid and void, with only a single exposed pillar visible, maintaining an unobstructed relationship between structure and scenery.
Raw Materials in Harmony with Nature
The Good House emphasizes a palette of raw, tactile materials to create a dialogue with its environment:
-
Crude Roman travertine brings timeless elegance.
-
Cumaru wood enriches interiors with warmth.
-
Moledo stone grounds the structure in regional tradition.
-
Exposed concrete asserts strength and modernity.
These materials remain authentic and unpolished, reinforcing the house’s role as both a protective shelter and an ode to the surrounding landscape.
A Family-Centered Design
Created for family living, the residence integrates open, flowing spaces to encourage connection and shared experiences. Large windows and integrated layouts ensure every room enjoys the panoramic horizon. Both functional and contemplative, the house offers places to gather while also providing serene private corners.
Casa O BEM: Gratitude Through Architecture
The name Casa O BEM (“The Good House”) reflects the client’s vision of the home as a gesture of gratitude—to life, to family, and to nature. By preserving views and harmonizing with its site, the residence transcends conventional luxury, becoming a living expression of balance and appreciation.
