Nestled within a dense residential area in Ladprao Soi 15, Genti House Bangkok is a striking example of how thoughtful architecture can transform limitations into refined living experiences. Designed by the acclaimed Thai studio WARchitect, this 705-square-meter private residence redefines urban luxury with bold materials, layered privacy, and a deep connection to nature.
Contextual Design for a Challenging Plot
Built on a rectangular 87-sq-wah (348 sqm) site with its narrow edge facing north, the home sits among tightly packed single-family houses with limited surrounding views or natural features. With a deep, elongated layout running east to west, the design had to address both solar exposure and spatial density—common urban design challenges in Bangkok.
WARchitect’s solution was to minimize exterior balconies and instead use large vertical fins and deep wall panels to shield the interiors from intense sunlight. These fins—clad in timeless Supergenti grey stone—run the length of the home, offering privacy, shadow play, and visual strength.
Material Expression of Warmth and Permanence
While the exterior is grounded in monolithic stone, the interiors embrace a warm, organic feel. Makha wood screens provide both solar protection and texture. Their horizontal grain aligns harmoniously with the layered stone, creating a material palette that is sophisticated yet deeply tactile. From walls to ceilings, the interior surfaces prioritize natural finishes—avoiding synthetic imitations and fostering a sense of tranquil luxury.
Integrated Nature Within a Compact Footprint
Though the lot is modest, nature has been intricately woven into the design. A serene koi pond with a mature Mekong river fig tree marks the entrance, creating a meditative arrival experience. A central vertical courtyard, anchored by a tall mangrove tree, channels light and ventilation through all three levels. Balconies are planted with leafless sage trees to soften facades and add seasonal dynamics.
On the second floor, a private swimming pool sits above the parking area. This strategic positioning reduces ground-level density while enhancing privacy and thermal comfort. From the pool, residents enjoy unobstructed views over neighboring fences—an elevated escape from the dense city below.
A Rooftop Retreat with Skyline Views
The rooftop terrace further expands the home’s social and leisure functions. Designed for evening gatherings, it features a reflecting pond and lush planting, contrasting with Bangkok’s vertical skyline. An adaptable multi-purpose room with a prep kitchen and bathroom allows the rooftop to transform seamlessly from a lounge space to a party venue.
A Crafted Urban Lifestyle
Genti House Bangkok showcases WARchitect’s mastery in balancing form, function, and emotional resonance. The project reimagines urban residential living—leveraging natural light, thoughtful materials, and lush pockets of greenery to craft a home that feels both intimate and expansive.
