Monteiro House by Mateus Monteiro is a refined weekend residence immersed in the dense greenery of a Brazilian forest. This 2,152-square-foot home was designed as a peaceful escape from urban life, where architecture and nature exist in harmony. Built with minimal impact on the landscape, it reflects a deep respect for the site’s existing ecosystem and topography.
The project originated from the family’s vision of living among native trees and enjoying slow, quality time in nature. With a clear focus on sustainability and contextual design, Monteiro House preserves the site’s natural features while offering a contemporary lifestyle experience.
Design in Dialogue with Nature
The architecture of Monteiro House emphasizes openness, transparency, and material honesty. Large glass panels welcome natural light and dissolve visual barriers between interior and exterior, offering panoramic views of the surrounding forest. Cumaru wood and stone bricks were selected to reflect the textures of the land, creating a warm, grounded atmosphere that blends with the vegetation. The integrated patio, shaded by the forest canopy, functions as an outdoor living space where residents can gather, rest, and reconnect.
A Thoughtful Layout for Weekend Living
The layout of the home is both functional and inviting. Two bedrooms provide comfort for short stays, with the primary suite enjoying access to a secluded private garden. The heart of the house includes a central open-plan area with a kitchen, living room, and outdoor patio designed for family interaction. A modest pool, carefully positioned for optimal sunlight through the trees, completes the retreat with a place for leisure and refreshment.
Interiors Infused with Personality
Monteiro House’s interiors are curated with intention, showcasing timeless pieces by acclaimed Brazilian designer Sérgio Rodrigues. A personal collection of Murano glass adds color, elegance, and heritage to the living spaces. These thoughtful inclusions transform the house into more than just a getaway—it becomes a meaningful family sanctuary.
Sustainability at the Core
Eco-conscious design is fundamental to the home’s philosophy. The structure minimizes masonry and instead relies on lightweight construction and glazing to reduce environmental disruption. By preserving native trees and enhancing cross-ventilation, the house maintains comfortable interior conditions with minimal energy use. Monteiro House demonstrates how architecture can be both contemporary and environmentally responsible.
