08023 Architects have completed the Herrero House, a 5,651 sq ft (500 m²) residence in Alella, Barcelona, Spain. The three-story dwelling blends clean modern geometry with advanced home automation technologies, expansive terraces, and a lush Mediterranean garden.
Contemporary Form and Layout
The Herrero House is organized across three levels:

Basement: Technical spaces, garage for two cars, gym, spa, storage rooms, and an indoor pool.

Ground floor: Open-plan living, dining, and kitchen areas with large windows that seamlessly connect interior and exterior spaces.

Upper floor: Private bedrooms, each with its own terrace, including a master suite with dressing room and spa-style bathroom overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
Externally, the home is defined by stacked white rectangular volumes, with large glazed openings ensuring natural light and panoramic views.
Smart Technology and Sustainability
The residence integrates 21st-century smart home systems, controlled entirely via smartphone. Sustainability measures include:

High-performance insulation to boost energy efficiency.

Rainwater harvesting used to irrigate the Mediterranean garden and fill the pool.

Chromotherapy LED systems in both indoor and outdoor pools, adapting to the mood of the owners.

Indoor-Outdoor Living
The living areas open fully toward the garden and infinity pool, erasing the boundary between interior and exterior. The covered veranda transforms into a chill-out lounge, equipped with LED mood lighting.
Upstairs, the renovation replaced the original roof with bedroom terraces, extending private living spaces into the open air. The master terrace frames sweeping views of the Mediterranean Sea.
