URBANJOBS has reimagined Batard Bomonti in Istanbul’s Bomonti district as a vintage-inspired local pub, designed to feel as if it had been part of the neighborhood for decades. Measuring 1,184 square feet, the project combines artisan craftsmanship, genuine details, and French-influenced elegance, creating a bohemian yet refined dining and social experience.

A Genuine and Vintage Ambiance

When tasked with redesigning a space they had previously completed, URBANJOBS responded to the client’s request for a timeless, old-looking atmosphere. Rather than creating a polished new interior, they pursued an aesthetic that feels lived-in and authentic.

The guiding motto was “genuine design”: every detail was conceived and crafted specifically for Batard Bomonti. In contrast to the copy-paste culture prevalent in social media-driven design, the architects emphasized authentic, handmade details that would intrigue design enthusiasts and locals alike.

Bohemian Elegance with French Influences

The design balances a bohemian outlook with an elegant undertone. Large custom-built shelving units and artisanal installations showcase craftsmanship, while subtle construction details — like door hinges adjusted to close automatically without pistons — reinforce the intended atmosphere.

The architects also sought to appeal to all five senses, ensuring the experience extended beyond the visual to touch, sound, and atmosphere.

A Holistic Approach to Interior Design

URBANJOBS embraced a holistic design strategy, deconstructing the space into components and then recombining them to achieve visual and functional integrity. Every element — fixed furniture, mobile pieces, ceiling, wall, and floor — was considered part of the same unified composition.

This approach avoided over-designing while ensuring each corner of the pub offered the same ambiance. The result is a consistent guest experience: no matter where a visitor sits, the atmosphere remains cohesive and inviting.

Artisan Details and Customer-Centered Design

Attention to detail is what sets Batard Bomonti apart:

  • Handcrafted installations highlight authenticity.

  • Material honesty reinforces the artisan character.

  • Functional yet elegant detailing supports comfort and atmosphere.

The design process included simulating the experience from each table, ensuring that the vintage and bohemian ambiance is consistent throughout the space. Feedback from both the client and patrons confirmed that the goal was successfully achieved.
