Overlooking the serene Mediterranean coast in Aamchit, Lebanon, the Aamchit Residence by Blankpage Architects is a captivating study in horizontality, transparency, and rhythm. Designed as a series of layered decks, this 430 m² beachfront home maximizes its relationship with the sea through a minimalist structure and seamless integration with the surrounding landscape.
A Dialogue Between Architecture and Horizon
Built on a gently inclined plot, the house unfolds over three vertically stacked platforms that respond to the site’s topography while framing unobstructed sea views. Blankpage Architects have conceived the home as a compositional celebration of the Mediterranean horizon, using horizontal slabs supported by a minimal steel grid and encased in transparent glass.
This elemental expression allows the home to breathe with the landscape, offering a continuous dialogue between built form and natural setting.
Layered Living: From Deck to Shore
The residence is accessed by car from a street just below the top deck. From there, a smooth sequence of ramps and stairs guides visitors across levels that blur the boundary between interior and exterior:
-
The upper deck houses the master bedroom, a lap pool, and a generous sun terrace.
-
The middle deck contains two guest bedrooms and a family living area.
-
The lower deck, closest to the sea, serves as the main reception. It opens directly to an infinity pool and a private stairway to the shore.
Together, the platforms form a spatial promenade, gently cascading from street to sea.
Structure, Light, and Rhythm
The house’s steel frame—built on a 2.55-meter grid of slender square columns—supports wide cantilevered slabs clad in wood decking. This combination generates a kaleidoscope of shifting shadows, animated throughout the day by the movement of the sun.
At sunset, the west-facing façade becomes a photographic diaphragm, channeling the last rays of light deep into the home, washing the interiors in a horizontal glow of deep red. The effect transforms the structure into a temporal instrument of light.
A Seamless Blend of Form and Landscape
With its restrained palette, geometric elegance, and intelligent site adaptation, the Aamchit Residence stands as a refined example of modern Mediterranean architecture. It is a living platform—fluid, open, and in constant conversation with the sea.
