Nestled in the serene semi-rural landscape of Orangevale in Sacramento County, the Sacramento New Residence by Klopf Architecture is a thoughtful, single-story dwelling that harmonizes with its natural surroundings. Built to replace a dated ranch-style home, the design embraces clarity, minimalism, and indoor-outdoor connection, offering a long-term retreat for its owners.

Replacing the Ranch with a Refined Modern Vision

This custom residence was designed for a couple with a deep appreciation for mid-century modern aesthetics, having previously lived in a Streng home—a Northern California variation of the iconic Eichler. They approached Klopf Architecture with a clear goal: design a contemporary, low-maintenance home that celebrates natural light, openness, and the landscape.

Working in collaboration with Van Gelder Construction, Klopf delivered a clean-lined modern home that draws on the simplicity and warmth of classic California modernism.

Living Among the Oaks, Creek, and Open Field

The site, surrounded by mature oak trees, a seasonal creek, and open fields, greatly influenced the architectural response. The floor plan was carefully conceived to frame views of the landscape and maximize sunlight, while still providing privacy and serenity.

Large sliding glass doors and expansive windows connect all main spaces to the outdoors. Whether from the living area, kitchen, or bedrooms, the homeowners experience a strong visual and spatial link to the natural environment throughout the day.

Single-Level Simplicity with Long-Term Livability

Designed as a forever home, the 2,633-square-foot residence includes 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Every element of the layout was crafted with comfort, accessibility, and aging-in-place in mind. The open living areas are fluid, bright, and inviting, while the private zones offer calm and refuge.

Subtle detailing—such as minimalist trim, natural wood accents, and streamlined surfaces—reinforces the feeling of modern ease. Materials were selected for durability and timeless appeal, allowing the home to age gracefully along with its residents.
