This elegant white apartment in Moscow by Alexander Tischler is a 77 m² two-bedroom residence thoughtfully redesigned between 2019 and 2020 to accommodate the evolving lifestyle of its owners. The brief included an open kitchen–living concept, a transitional home office that could later become a child’s room, and maximized storage solutions.

Functional Design for Future Living

The original layout featured a nonfunctional corridor and a compact guest bathroom. However, the Alexander Tischler team transformed these challenges into opportunities by restructuring the apartment layout. By eliminating load-bearing walls, they opened up the space, letting natural light from the sunny-side windows flood the interiors.

Kitchen–Living Room: Clean Lines and Natural Materials

The kitchen was split into two functional zones. On one side, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry houses a built-in refrigerator and multiple appliances. Opposite this is a minimalist setup with a sink and cooktop framed by elegant white onyx-style stoneware pylons. A custom-made chandelier composed of profile lamps at varying heights illuminates the dining area, adding visual interest.

To soften the monochromatic palette, the designers incorporated a plush, textured sofa and vibrant accent chairs, blending comfort with minimalism.

A Home Office with a Purpose

The home office is cleverly positioned to eventually become a nursery. It lacks a traditional fourth wall, allowing for a seamless transition into the adjacent walk-through dressing zone. Storage was maximized by relocating the office entrance closer to the living room, enabling better traffic flow and functionality.

American walnut veneer MDF was used for the shelving unit and wall-mounted desk—materials chosen for their warmth and tactile appeal. When converted into a nursery, the space will easily accommodate a crib while retaining ample storage for baby essentials.

A Tranquil Bedroom Retreat

In the bedroom, a wall-spanning wardrobe with sleek white fronts doubles as a projection screen for movie nights. The American walnut veneer paneling contrasts with the light-colored bed, and subtle lighting enhances the natural wood texture. Ceiling and furniture-integrated light sources create a soothing ambiance for rest and relaxation.

Smart Hallway Solutions

The hallway was reimagined as a spacious walk-in dressing area, now housing a washer, dryer, and a compact water heater above. By reallocating space from the home office, the design team significantly increased storage capacity. A mirrored wall with frontal lighting visually enlarges the narrow area, while a suspended shelf adds function without visual clutter.

Upgraded Guest Bathroom

The guest bathroom was expanded at the expense of the corridor to include a comfortable shower zone. Niches above the toilet and shower area are enhanced with contrasting tiles and ambient lighting, making the compact space feel luxurious.

In the main bathroom, the repositioned toilet now sits farther from the bathtub for improved ergonomics. A graphite enamel drawer unit with an artificial stone countertop complements the sleek, white sink, delivering both practicality and style.
