Perched on one of the highest and steepest lots in Tampah Hills, Lombok, Villa Boë is a striking 1,151 m² residence designed by Alexis Dornier. Completed in 2024, the villa redefines tropical hillside living with a design language that merges architecture with land art.

Architecture Shaped by the Hillside

The steep terrain of Tampah Hills guided the architectural concept, encouraging a vertical stacking of functions across multiple levels. At the base, the garage and main entrance are discreetly integrated into the slope. Ascending upward, the villa opens to communal spaces — a fluid sequence of living, dining, and kitchen areas — before transitioning to private family wings, each designed to house separate households.

At the pinnacle lies a circular yoga and contemplation platform, offering panoramic views of the surrounding hills and Indian Ocean — a serene sanctuary for reflection.

Geometry Inspired by Nature

The villa’s plan is organized around concentric circles and radial segments, echoing the natural contours of the hilltop. Roofs tilt and open strategically, while volumes cascade in terraced layers, giving the home the appearance of a sculptural landscape rather than a traditional massing.

This geometric clarity ensures that the villa sits confidently on the land without overwhelming its dramatic setting.

Indoor–Outdoor Living as a Lifestyle

Villa Boë’s design emphasizes a seamless indoor–outdoor relationship. The pool is integrated into the living landscape, extending from interior spaces outward through level changes and soft transitions.

Material choices enhance this harmony:

  • Teak wood for ceilings and soffits,

  • White Palimanan stone for flooring,

  • Off-white walls for a minimalist backdrop.

Together, these elements root the villa in its tropical climate, creating a restrained yet elegant material palette.

A Dialogue with Mid-Century Icons

Certain roof gestures and framing strategies nod to mid-century masters such as John Lautner, particularly in the way architecture becomes a lens for experiencing the landscape. Like Lautner’s hillside homes, Villa Boë embraces bold geometry without losing respect for its site.

Here, the villa is not a statement that shouts, but a presence that stands with confidence and calm, a balance between expressiveness and humility.

Expressive Yet Respectful Architecture

Villa Boë is more than a residence; it is an architectural response to the land itself. By integrating concentric geometry, restrained materials, and mid-century-inspired gestures, Alexis Dornier has created a home that feels both timeless and site-specific.

Standing prominently within the Lombok landscape, Villa Boë reflects a new chapter of tropical architecture in Indonesia — one where bold form and natural humility coexist in harmony.
