A Contemporary Insertion in Historic Vilnius

Located in Vilnius’s old district, Twin House by ArchLAB studio exemplifies how thoughtful design can seamlessly integrate modern architecture within a historical context. The neighborhood, defined by detached low-rise dwellings, gains a new yet respectful addition in this twin-volume residence that honors tradition while embracing progressive design.

Design Inspired by Nature

The plot’s defining feature—a mature pine grove—deeply shaped the home’s design language. Nature plays a central role in the experience of the home:

  • Expansive Windows draw in natural light and offer sweeping views of both the pine grove and the cityscape beyond.

  • Wooden Terraces extend the indoor experience outward, creating ideal spaces for leisure, entertaining, and reconnecting with nature.

  • Biophilic Elements dominate the design, creating a calm, relaxing ambiance that softens the intensity of urban living.

This harmonious relationship with nature aligns with modern design principles focused on well-being, sustainability, and visual serenity.

Thoughtful Interior Zoning

Every square meter of the 3,024 sq. ft. layout was carefully considered to support modern lifestyles while maximizing spatial efficiency and connection with the outdoors:

  • Basement Level: Discreet underground garages preserve the visual openness of the site and reduce surface-level clutter.

  • Second Floor: Hosts the bedrooms, providing intimate, light-filled spaces ideal for rest and privacy.

  • Upper Floor: Soaring ceilings elevate the kitchen, dining, and living spaces, offering dynamic views in both directions—urban energy on one side, tranquil greenery on the other.

This vertical arrangement not only optimizes the site’s natural slope but also reinforces a sense of ascension—an architectural journey from grounded seclusion to elevated openness.

Urban Living, Naturally Balanced

In an era of dense urbanization, Twin House stands as a powerful counter-narrative. It shows how homes can exist within cities yet maintain a strong relationship with the natural world. The home’s dualism—city versus nature, past versus present, structure versus softness—creates an enriching experience for its residents.

“We wanted to create a space where everyday life flows effortlessly between interior and landscape, between shelter and freedom.”
