In the heart of Milan, overlooking the iconic Piazza del Duomo, Terrazza Aperol in Milan has unveiled its fresh new look just in time for Milan Design Week 2025. The interior architecture project, envisioned by Vudafieri-Saverino Partners, redefines the Aperol experience with a focus on social interaction, sustainability, and Italian design elegance.
A Space Reimagined for Togetherness
The newly transformed Terrazza Aperol embodies the Aperol brand’s ethos of conviviality. Every element—from materials to layout—has been curated to create a welcoming, vibrant space for socializing. The venue’s updated design fosters spontaneous connection, where guests can enjoy the iconic orange aperitif while immersed in the spirit of Milan.
Architectural Synergy with Piazza del Duomo
Situated on the first floor of the Mercato del Duomo, the Terrazza is accessible via the Motta-Autogrill entrance. The interior harmonizes with its urban context, creating a continuous dialogue between the indoor environment and the city outside. Large windows offer sweeping views of the Duomo’s marble spires, seamlessly blending architectural history with contemporary design.
Sustainable Design and Sensory Appeal
Architects Claudio Saverino and Tiziano Vudafieri, who previously designed the Aperol venue in Venice, introduce recycled, corrugated polycarbonate as a key material. Used for feature walls and the bar itself, this 3D-printed material is both environmentally conscious and visually impactful. A glossy Aperol-orange finish gives the Milan bar its signature focal point, while golden hammered surfaces and mirrored niches add depth and warmth.
This material narrative continues with Florim’s Sensi collection, a recycled porcelain stoneware in sand brown, creating a herringbone pattern reminiscent of classic Milanese parquet floors. The result is a rich tapestry of textures and tones that celebrate both innovation and tradition.
“Our intention was to create a place that invites conviviality, where architecture becomes a bridge between the experience of space and the joy of togetherness,” said architects Vudafieri and Saverino.
Immersive Visual Storytelling
Design details reflect Aperol’s vibrant spirit. Illustrations by Vahram Muratyan on the bar wall reinterpret Milan landmarks in stylized, colorful forms—each image a playful homage to the city and the brand.
Behind the bar, glass and pale gold metal shelving frame bottles like art objects, amplifying natural light throughout the space. These reflective surfaces enhance visual depth, changing throughout the day with the shifting sunlight.
The Panoramic Aperitif Experience
On the terrace, furnishings in earthy tones mirror the natural materials used indoors. Guests can enjoy uninterrupted views of Milan’s bustling square, experiencing the city’s pulse while relaxing in a tranquil, elevated setting. The terrace becomes a social observatory—ideal for watching the world go by while savoring a perfectly crafted Aperol Spritz.
A Multifunctional Venue for Modern Milan
With flexibility at its core, the layout supports the venue’s dynamic role: from daytime bar to evening aperitif hub. It’s a versatile setting for informal meetups, business gatherings, or celebrations. Terrazza Aperol’s interior is more than design—it’s a curated experience that captures the Milanese lifestyle and Aperol’s youthful energy.
