The Full House Bangkok Residence, designed by WARchitect, is a unique private residence located in Senanikom 1, Chatuchak, Bangkok, Thailand. Covering 730 sq.m., this thoughtfully designed home accommodates two families within a single architectural form, offering both privacy and connectivity.
Innovative Design for Multi-Generational Living
At first glance, the white gable-shaped structure appears as a single home. However, it is actually two separate houses, each with distinct functions. The larger section belongs to the older brother, while the smaller one is owned by the younger brother. Despite having their own families, both siblings wanted to live close to their parents, ensuring a close-knit family environment.
To accommodate this, the house design integrates a shared central courtyard and an interconnected Thai kitchen, fostering communal living while maintaining individual privacy. The space also welcomes visits from their sister and her family, bringing the total number of residents to around ten.
Strategic Site Planning & Architectural Solutions
The residence is positioned on a corner plot surrounded by roads on three sides, requiring careful compliance with setback regulations. This restriction influenced the design, leading to a compact three-story layout that efficiently utilizes available space.
- The north-facing facade maximizes natural light and offers an unobstructed street view.
- The south side, with overhead electrical wires, features limited openings for aesthetic and practical reasons.
- The east and west walls are designed as solid, double-layered structures to minimize heat gain, with natural light entering through the courtyard instead of traditional windows.
Architectural Expression: Minimalist Yet Inviting
Initially, the building mass appeared too solid and uninviting. To address this, WARchitect introduced a gable roof design without eaves, evoking a sense of warmth and familiarity. The form was further refined by dividing the structure into four distinct gable segments, creating a harmonious yet dynamic composition.
- One side features solid walls, while the other showcases expansive openings framed with slim steel edges.
- The gables are arranged asymmetrically, ensuring a sense of rhythm and lightness.
- The staggered placement adds depth and visual interest to the structure.
Materials & Interior Aesthetic
The material palette was carefully curated to enhance both functionality and aesthetics:
- Smooth white walls create a clean, timeless facade.
- Light-colored wooden floors bring warmth and are easy to maintain, making them ideal for families with children and elderly members.
- White marble feature walls accentuate key spaces.
- Slim steel railings optimize stairway safety while preserving an airy feel.
- Curved fiber-cement fence panels introduce a unique interplay of light and shadow throughout the day.
A Testament to Thoughtful Thai Architecture
The Full House Bangkok Residence is a remarkable example of contemporary Thai architecture, balancing privacy, connectivity, and aesthetic purity.
