Fraser Residence by Christopher Simmonds Architects

The Fraser Residence is a compact modern home situated in Ottawa, Canada. This elegant looking home boasts strong, linear lines both on its exterior and in its interior areas. The former consists of brick in an earth-toned shade combined with cedar siding, broken apart by dark bronze aluminium glazing.
The interior is not left to lack natural light. All of the common areas are blessed with sunlight that comes through the enormous windows which also help to make a seamless transition between the outdoor and indoor living spaces.

Juxtaposed volumes define the exterior appearance of this modern home while interweaving special volumes define the expansive interior.

The house takes advantage of its sloping site by inserting the garage into the lower level. This allows the elongated porch and glazed projections of the living spaces to define the home’s character in the streetscape. Subtle earth-toned brick, stained cedar siding and dark bronze aluminum glazing systems form the neutral exterior palette.

This project won Best Custom Urban Infill in 2011.

“Chris carefully listened to our needs and created a space that was exactly what we had envisioned, balancing aesthetics with functionality. The process was exciting and the end product is truly a dream home that is very contemporary but blends well within the community.” – Homeowners
