Set in the tranquil, wooded landscapes of the Flanders region in Belgium, the Flanders House by SAOTA is a striking example of contemporary residential design that harmonizes refined modernism with a deeply rooted connection to its natural setting. Designed by internationally renowned architecture firm SAOTA, this home is a bold architectural statement that effortlessly balances precision and warmth.

A Landscape-Responsive Modern Home

Situated on a generous 17,393 m² site, the house presents a masterfully composed form that responds to its environment with poise. The residence consists of a main house set above a basement parking garage and a separate pool pavilion that includes a dedicated home office. These primary volumes are connected by landscaped courtyards, serene koi ponds, and a linear swimming pool—forming a tranquil axis of movement and reflection.

Sculptural Design and Elegant Composition

The home’s exterior is a rhythmic interplay of solid stone volumes and glazed voids, unified under a slender, wraparound canopy that defines the outdoor terraces. Vertical columns are thoughtfully placed to act both as structural elements and sculptural screens, adding a dynamic visual rhythm while maintaining privacy.

SAOTA’s design embraces a minimalist yet expressive palette of materials. The façades feature warm Giallo D’Istria marble cladding, soft sandstone flooring, and sleek Alucobond aluminium panels, accentuated with expansive glass walls that blur the line between inside and out. The detailing is clean, precise, and luxurious—enhancing the textures of the natural materials rather than overshadowing them.

An Interior Rooted in Functionality and Atmosphere

Unlike the typical open-plan concept found in many modern homes, Flanders House by SAOTA reflects the client’s desire for traditional, well-defined rooms. Each space is purposefully arranged, opening outward to the lush terraces and inward to a dramatic double-volume atrium filled with skylights. This central core not only organizes the interior spatial flow but also serves as the emotional and climatic heart of the home.

In summer, large glass panels retract to create a seamless indoor-outdoor lifestyle. During winter, the atrium fosters a more inward, cozy environment, offering year-round comfort and ambiance. The result is a living space that breathes with the seasons and invites the landscape deep into the interiors.

A Showcase of Modern Belgian Architecture

The Flanders House is more than just a residence—it’s a dialogue between space, form, and nature. It stands as a benchmark for luxury residential architecture in Belgium, and further cements SAOTA’s reputation as a global leader in cutting-edge, site-sensitive design.
