A Minimalist Sky-High Sanctuary Overlooking Kazan
Rising above the skyline of Kazan, the Panoramic Penthouse designed by Ekaterina Fedorovskaya transforms a 20th-floor apartment into an elegant refuge where light, proportion, and craftsmanship converge. With breathtaking views of the city’s historic heart, this 126 m² residence embodies modern luxury through restraint, natural warmth, and architectural precision.
After experiencing Fedorovskaya’s work in the lobby and common spaces of their building, the owners—an open-spirited couple with grown children—entrusted her to reimagine their private home. Their request was clear: a minimalist interior filled with light, thoughtful storage, and refined comfort.
Redefining Space and Proportion
Originally delivered with basic developer finishes, the penthouse was completely restructured to align with the clients’ lifestyle. The designer reorganized the plan around a 48 m² open living and dining area, visually expansive yet subtly zoned. High 3.15-meter ceilings amplify the sense of airiness, while panoramic glazing invites abundant daylight.
A striking centerpiece, the bio-fireplace enclosed in glass, anchors the TV area and exemplifies Fedorovskaya’s blend of innovation and elegance. The space’s calm palette and balanced geometry emphasize serenity without austerity.
Function Concealed in Form
Every design gesture in the penthouse serves both function and visual clarity. A disruptive structural column was transformed into a concealed utility block, integrating laundry, additional refrigeration, and wine storage. This careful orchestration maintains a seamless aesthetic while meeting practical needs.
Throughout the home, custom-designed cabinetry in matte oak veneer creates continuity. Each piece—from wardrobes and shelving to the kitchen, bar, and wall panels—was meticulously designed by Fedorovskaya’s studio, EF+A, and crafted to exact specifications.
The Private Realm: Floating Elegance
The master bedroom distills the project’s philosophy of lightness and balance. “Floating” furniture and delicate metal detailing enhance a sense of calm, while a mother-of-pearl framed mirror multiplies daylight and expands the visual field.
Originally constrained, the master bathroom was reconfigured to accommodate both a freestanding bathtub and a walk-in shower, framed by soft lighting and a circular mirror—elements that elevate everyday rituals into moments of quiet luxury.
Personal Stories Within Design
Beyond spatial beauty, Panoramic Penthouse carries the imprint of family heritage. The designer crafted a bespoke library-bar cabinet to house the clients’ cherished book collection inherited from the client’s father, a celebrated Tatarstan writer. This piece, merging nostalgia and modern craftsmanship, serves as both a focal point and a symbol of continuity.
For the couple’s daughter, a neutral yet sophisticated bedroom doubles as a study or guest suite. A smaller child’s room features illuminated floating cabinets and mirrored surfaces that enhance depth and brightness. Together, these elements reflect a cohesive design language of calm, clarity, and adaptability.
Minimalism with a Human Touch
Fedorovskaya’s Panoramic Penthouse exemplifies her studio’s signature balance between minimalism and emotion—where precision meets softness, and modernity meets soul. The result is an elevated urban dwelling that transcends trends, offering an enduring sense of light, warmth, and belonging high above the city.
