On the tranquil shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, Lake House by ARRCC and SAOTA is a masterful fusion of contemporary Swiss architecture and a bold African-inspired aesthetic. Designed for a successful Senegalese businessman, this private residence seamlessly combines sculptural form, global interiors, and expressive materiality, reflecting the cosmopolitan lifestyle of its owners.
Sculptural Architecture Rooted in Context
The triangular lakeside site presented numerous design challenges, from strict planning restrictions to site geometry. In response, SAOTA crafted an architectural composition of rounded cubes and angular volumes that rise organically from the triangular plot. The result is a reductive, sculptural home with flowing forms and sharp angles that capture the drama of the lakefront setting.
Clad in dark zinc, the home’s exterior is paired with granite stonework that grounds it in the landscape. A curved double-volume glass façade frames uninterrupted views of Lake Geneva, pulling natural light deep into the interior.
A Global Interior with African Soul
The interior design by ARRCC, led by Director Mark Rielly, explores a layered narrative of modern European design and African provenance. Organic forms and tactile materials soften the strong architectural lines, while bespoke South African furniture and decor pieces bring warmth and authenticity.
“The contemporary architectural space defined the design direction, resulting in a modern approach with brands of diverse origin,” says Rielly.
Interior Material Palette:
-
Walnut joinery
-
Travertine and marble flooring
-
Granite wall cladding
-
Stainless steel detailing
-
Brushed metal and polished chrome finishes
The main living area is divided into formal and informal zones, organized around a suspended black flue and fire bowl—a striking centerpiece that anchors the space.
Furniture & Art as Cultural Bridge
Custom-designed furniture pieces such as:

-
Arne Sofas by B&B Italia

Together, these elements form a curated global collection, carefully layered to create rich texture and storytelling throughout the home.
An accent wall of Chandore stone, embedded with stainless steel strips, serves as a tactile backdrop that enhances the architectural form while subtly referencing African craftsmanship.
Dining, Entertaining, and Statement Details
In the dining area, a glass Vista table by OKHA pairs with steel-framed barstools at the adjacent custom bar. Timber slats, used throughout, provide warmth and rhythm across various surfaces. A Carolina Sardi installation of yellow suspended discs adds a burst of color and levity, bringing the bar area to life.
A glass-encased spiral staircase and elevator lead to the upper floor, housing private bedrooms and bathrooms. In the children’s bathroom, yellow Caesarstone, brushed stainless steel, and chrome fixtures combine to create a playful and modern contrast.
A Home That Transcends Borders
From sculptural architectural massing to a deeply considered fusion of African and European design, Lake House by ARRCC and SAOTA is a celebration of global identity, rooted in personal heritage. It’s a home that is as much about family and cultural resonance as it is about modern luxury—set against the serene backdrop of Lake Geneva.
