Assembly Buildings by URBANJOBS – A 14,000 m² Co-Working and Community Hub in Istanbul

  • Project: Assembly Buildings
  • Architect: URBANJOBS
  • Location: Turkey, Istanbul
  • Year: 2023
  • Area: 14000 m2

URBANJOBS has designed the interiors of Assembly Buildings, a 14,000 m² office complex in Istanbul that redefines the concept of shared workspaces. Conceived as a “building community”, the project combines high-end co-working environments with social, cultural, and wellness facilities, providing one of the most extensive shared office systems in the city.

A Building Community in Istanbul

Assembly Buildings was designed as more than an office — it is a multi-layered ecosystem. The layout integrates:

  • Shared offices and private suites

  • Conference halls and multi-purpose event spaces

  • Vertical gardens spanning four floors

  • Pilates and wellness studios

  • Restaurants, bars, and recreation rooms

  • Concierge and cargo services

  • Gallery and agricultural garden areas

  • Podcast studios for simultaneous broadcasting

With nearly 20 different facilities, the project functions like a hotel without accommodation, creating an environment where thousands of users can work, meet, exercise, socialize, and create all under one roof.

Multifunctional and Flexible Spaces

One of the most innovative aspects of the design is its adaptability. Spaces can be combined or reconfigured to serve multiple functions:

  • Conference sessions can occur while others enjoy pilates classes.

  • Vertical gardens and integrated meeting rooms support both informal and formal gatherings.

  • Recreational zones double as networking hubs.

This fluidity reflects URBANJOBS’ ambition to design a workspace of the future, one that evolves with its users’ needs.

Light, Energy, and Efficiency

URBANJOBS strategically placed working areas along the window perimeters, ensuring maximum natural light and reducing energy consumption. Storage, kitchens, cargo centers, and wet areas (bathrooms and showers) were pushed to the core, freeing the façades for human-centric spaces.

At the heart of the building, gallery atriums rise four floors high (each about 150 m²). These voids not only bring daylight deep into the structure but also act as social hubs.

Iconic Interior Structures

Two striking interior interventions shape the spatial experience:

  • A multi-level connector that links two floors, encouraging users to socialize across levels through gradual elevation changes.

  • A giant vase-like installation, visible from all four levels, designed as an oasis that anchors the building visually and spatially. At its base, a recreational area creates a calming focal point for the community.

These iconic elements elevate the project beyond office typologies, making Assembly Buildings a landmark of workplace design in Istanbul.
