In Los Gatos, California, Klopf Architecture, in collaboration with Studio M Merge, has transformed a dated mid-century home into a dynamic, experience-driven retreat designed for a family of five with a deep passion for sports. Completed in 2020, the Sports Enthusiasts’ Hideaway reflects a lifestyle centered around wellness, recreation, and family togetherness.
A Seamless Blend of Indoors and Outdoors
The redesigned home embraces open-plan living, natural light, and strong visual connections to the surrounding gardens and amenities. Interior upgrades include expanded communal areas, a new bedroom, and a rejuvenated primary bathroom. The home’s flow was reimagined to foster both social interaction and personal retreat.
A standout feature is the attached ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit), which houses a stylish sports bar and a flexible office space that also functions as a guest suite—perfect for hosting friends or accommodating changing family needs.
An Athletic Oasis in the Backyard
Klopf Architecture’s vision extended well beyond the main house. The outdoor spaces now resemble a private athletic resort, featuring:
-
Expansive decks and shaded patios
-
A basketball half-court
-
A horseshoe pit
-
Plunge pools for cooling off after games
-
A sports lawn ideal for a range of outdoor activities
-
A pool house perfectly aligned to frame views of the adjacent golf course
Each component is thoughtfully placed to invite activity while enhancing visual harmony between architecture and landscape.
A Custom Home for a Sporting Lifestyle
This remodel isn’t just about looks—it’s about supporting a way of life. Every space has been tailored to the family’s favorite pursuits. Whether entertaining, relaxing, or staying active, the home supports multiple modes of living without compromising on comfort or aesthetics.
The Sports Enthusiasts’ Hideaway stands as a testament to modern residential design, where architecture becomes a canvas for lifestyle. It’s more than a home—it’s a purpose-built environment for joy, wellness, and connection.
