A Modern Home Shaped by Curves
Boomerang House by Joe Adsett Architects is a striking residence in Ascot that blurs the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. Designed around subtle curves and sculptural gestures, the home offers a private retreat immersed in nature.
Rather than relying on rigid geometry, the architecture employs sweeping rounded edges to soften the linearity of its forms. Light and substantial materials interplay to create a visual balance, while expansive openings connect living spaces directly to landscaped outdoor areas.
An Entry Marked by Sculpture and Light
The approach to the home is defined by a sculptural helix staircase, a centerpiece that rises dramatically within a double-height entry void. Above, a circular skylight brings daylight cascading down, emphasizing the geometry of curves that recur throughout the design.
This entry sequence sets the tone for the house: a blend of light, form, and spatial drama that guides occupants into the more intimate living spaces beyond.
Living Spaces and Private Retreats
The house is organized across multiple wings:
-
Upper level: The southern wing contains three bedrooms, a family bathroom, and a lounge, while the western wing is dedicated as a parents’ retreat, ensuring privacy and comfort.
-
Ground level: Generous living areas connect seamlessly to outdoor landscaped zones, integrating dining, lounge, and kitchen spaces into an open, flowing plan.
-
Concealed amenities: A four-car garage and wine cellar are tucked discreetly beneath the main living floor, maximizing above-ground space for family life and entertaining.
Architecture Rooted in Connection
Boomerang House’s design is centered on connection—between spaces, between forms, and between architecture and landscape. The curved facades embrace the garden, while transitions between indoors and outdoors are fluid and natural.
Through careful material selection—balancing weighted masonry with lighter finishes—the home achieves a sense of ease and lightness despite its substantial size. It functions not only as a luxury residence but also as a serene private sanctuary, cupping its occupants within its curved walls.
Boomerang House demonstrates Joe Adsett Architects’ mastery of modern Australian residential design, where sculptural form meets functional family living. With its curves, skylit stair hall, concealed amenities, and outdoor integration, the project embodies a contemporary architectural retreat tailored to its Ascot context.
