A Contemporary Suburban Retreat Balancing Art, Sport, and Nature
Set on the peaceful outskirts of Prague, the Suburban Villa by Nacházel Architekti redefines modern family living through its interplay of art, architecture, and landscape. Designed for a young family of four passionate about sports and the arts, the single-story home embraces both privacy and openness, weaving together elegant geometry, sustainable technologies, and tactile materiality.
At first glance, the residence appears understated—its form largely hidden from the street due to the site’s gentle slope. Yet beneath the roof-level parking area unfolds a sequence of sculptural volumes and garden courtyards, composing a private world defined by light, proportion, and harmony.
Spatial Composition: Four Wings and One Central Heart
The villa’s layout revolves around a central entrance hall, anchored by a curved concrete staircase that leads down into the main living area. From this nucleus, four distinct wings extend outward, each devoted to a specific function: family living, leisure, sleeping, and wellness.
Each wing enjoys direct access to its own private garden, forming a series of enclosed outdoor “rooms.” These green courtyards bring natural light deep into the plan while providing ever-changing views from within. The enfilade corridors—linear sequences of connected rooms—create visual continuity across the house, framing long perspectives that enhance spatial rhythm and flow.
This organization allows the architecture to breathe in four directions, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor living while maintaining an atmosphere of calm and seclusion.
Material Honesty and Refined Craftsmanship
Nacházel Architekti employed a restrained palette that emphasizes honest materials and refined detailing. The structure’s exposed concrete walls and staircase reveal the raw strength of the architecture, while polished white interior surfaces introduce brightness and serenity.
Natural stone clads the bathrooms and the indoor swimming pool, offering texture and permanence, while wood veneer cabinetry and paneling lend warmth and intimacy to the private zones. The interplay of these materials—concrete, stone, and wood—creates a visual and tactile balance between strength and comfort.
The result is an interior that feels sculptural yet welcoming, minimalist yet unmistakably livable.
Gardens as Extensions of Living
Each of the villa’s four gardens has a unique atmosphere and function, reflecting the character of its adjacent rooms. Framed by a low concrete wall, the outdoor spaces are designed to evolve into lush, tree-filled enclosures over time, ensuring both privacy and serenity.
The gardens serve not merely as views but as integral components of daily life—places for recreation, contemplation, and seasonal change. Together, they form a park-like microcosm within the suburban landscape, reinforcing the home’s dialogue between architecture and nature.
Sustainability and Environmental Design
Sustainability underpins the villa’s design philosophy. The house operates with a geothermal heat pump that powers underfloor heating during the winter and provides efficient cooling in the summer. Passive environmental strategies—including strategic shading, thermal massing, and natural ventilation—ensure comfort throughout the year while minimizing energy consumption.
All rainwater from the roof is collected in underground storage tanks for reuse in irrigation and maintenance, reducing the home’s ecological footprint.
Through these systems, Nacházel Architekti demonstrate that luxury and environmental responsibility can coexist seamlessly within contemporary residential architecture.
A Modern Czech Masterpiece
The Suburban Villa stands as a testament to the Czech tradition of rational design—where clarity of form, respect for materials, and sensitivity to context converge into quiet beauty.
By merging sustainable technologies with an architectural language of precision and restraint, Nacházel Architekti have created more than a home. They’ve crafted a private world for art, family, and reflection, where modernity and nature exist in perfect balance.
