MAT Office

MAT Office is a research-driven architecture and design practice with origins in Rotterdam and headquarters in Beijing. Founded in 2013 by Tang Kangshuo and Zhang Miao, the studio explores new typologies and spatial forms that respond to the evolving dynamics of contemporary urban life.

They specialize in public space regeneration, cultural and educational architecture, hospitality, co-living, and mixed-use projects. Their work is guided by typological exploration—studying the relationship between units and edges, publicity and openness, and the balance of individual and collective spaces.

In addition to built projects, MAT Office is active in research, exhibitions, and teaching, contributing to ongoing discourse about urban regeneration, adaptive reuse, and shared living. Their approach combines innovation with sensitivity to history, site, and social context, creating architecture that is both forward-thinking and deeply rooted in place.
