Nine Bathroom Remodel Trends for 2021

The year 2020 had a lot of people stuck at home, which means people spent way more time in their own bathrooms than usual. On the cusp of heading back out of the house in 2021, a lot of homeowners are totally ready for a change, so they’re on the lookout for bathroom renovation ideas. Luckily, we’ve pulled together nine bathroom remodel trends for 2021 that you can use for inspiration.

2021 Bathroom Remodel Trends

Not quite ready for a full house makeover? Bathroom renovation may give you a good starting point with just one of the most important rooms in the house.

1. Engineered Quartz Countertops

Quartz countertops offer variety, sustainability, longevity, and so many desirable features. A shift from natural stone in the bathroom started to show up in 2020, and 2021 has been all about engineered quartz because of that fact.

2. Floating Vanities

Perhaps it’s the desire for cleanliness and openness that spurred this bathroom remodeling trend. Floating vanities are anchored to the wall instead of reaching to the floor, so you have a space beneath the sink and cabinets for air and light to flow.

3. Smart Fixtures

Toilets, faucets, lighting, and even the flooring in your 2021 bathroom can be “smart.” Homeowners are opting to trade in their standard toilets and fixtures for additions that make more economical sense or offer far more convenience. You may want to consider a self-flushing toilet, heated flooring you can activate from your phone, or even voice-controlled lighting.

4. Back-Lit Mirrors

New mirrors are a common fixture installed or replaced during a bathroom renovation, but a new way of lighting adds this undeniable designer touch. Many homeowners are loving back-lit mirrors. The lighting flows from behind the mirror, so the wall space above or beside the mirror is free and open.

5. Vintage Elements

Remember the brassy faucets in your childhood home? How about the sage green bathtub or tiny glass tiles for the backsplash? Some of these vintage-worthy elements are trending their way right back into modern-day bathrooms.

6. Space-Saving Soaking Tubs

For a few years, it looked like bathtubs were on their way out of the modern bathroom. But during 2020, more people apparently rediscovered their love of a hot bath because soaking tubs are on their way back. The difference between the modern soaking tub and the older versions, however, is modern tubs often have smaller footprints and unique shapes, so they don’t require as much space.

7. Luxury Lighting

Luxury lighting has been steadfast in bathrooms for a while, and 2021 has not left property owners looking for a change just yet. From pendant lighting with personality over the vanity to a full-on
chandelier in the center of the ceiling, lighting like this totally ups the luxury appeal.

8. Wood-and-White Color Themes

Wood-and-white has been a big thing in kitchen renovation for a few years, but this color theme is making its way into the bathroom. Homeowners love the mix of clean white, luxury-level surfaces and traditional or even rustic wood. You can opt for bamboo-style flooring, a wooden backsplash, or even a wood-slat-covered ceiling to inject the natural element with white cabinetry, walls, or fixtures.

9. Large-Format Wall Tiling

Large-format wall tiles are just as visually enticing as a backdrop as smaller tiles, but they are far easier to keep clean and offer a more minimalist appearance. From porcelain to natural stone, and
from the backsplash to the shower, 2021 bathroom remodel trends are proving larger tiles are the way to go.
