Green Plants And Vintage Furniture

Vintage is a big family that brings together different styles and different eras. What’s interesting is that regardless of the era, retro furniture usually pairs very well with houseplants. I’ll show you this without delay.

AN ART DECO / ART NOUVEAU DECORATION AND PLANTS

If we speak chronologically, Art Nouveau (1890 – 1914) precedes Art Deco (1920 – 1930). And these are quite different styles. Art Nouveau is inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement across the Channel. It is a question of making beautiful what is functional and there are many curves and arabesques. They are also inspired by nature, by women. Integrating plants near an Art Nouveau piece of furniture is therefore quite easy. It’s a kind of continuity.

Art Deco is a bit different. Rigor is back. We will find straight lines, symmetry, a more cubist inspiration. In short, it’s a more austere style. And suddenly, indoor plants will allow you to bring more naturalness, to break this rigor inherent in the furniture (or even the architecture of your room if you live in Art Deco accommodation).

Whether you have Art Deco furniture or Art Nouveau furniture, there is an idea of elegance in addition to vintage. Plants offer a more accessible side to the furniture.

OTHER OLD STYLES AND GREEN PLANTS

As we said above, vintage furniture is a big family and isn’t just focused on a specific era. We can think of the Neo Antique style. The plants in this case make it possible to avoid the museum side, too frozen in an old time. There is also the “period” furniture – a large family which includes Louis XV, Empire, Regency… Here too in my eyes, plants help to break the museum effect, dust nest that we could to feel.

And then there are older and simpler pieces of furniture, without particular styles. Without excessive frills. These are pieces of furniture that we will easily find in Campaign Chic interiors, for example. We are going to have wood, weathered, speckled. The naturalness of the plants will reinforce the naturalness of the furniture and give it a slightly more modern setting.
