And it is not just about combining patterns or choosing the style that you like the most, but also about choosing the ideal fabrics and colors to withstand the passing of summer. When choosing outdoor cushions, we differentiate between those for the back and seat and the decorative ones. The first ones have to be resistant and washable, so it is best to choose them from specific outdoor fabrics. Meanwhile, with the decorations, you can afford more licenses and select more delicate fabrics, such as natural fiber –very in trend–, cotton or linen. In addition to its use, you will have to take into account its location: under a roof or not, if it is near the pool and it will get wet frequently, etc.
These fabrics are ideal for decorative cushions in your outdoor area due to their pleasant touch and the natural look they offer. Of course, only if it is undercover. And it is that these fabrics, although incredibly beautiful, are not prepared to withstand humidity and fade after high exposure to the sun. Even so, there are cotton or linen cushions (or mixtures of both) with a technological treatment that makes them more resistant.
When in doubt, when choosing an outdoor cushion, check what it says on the label. In addition to the fabric with which it is made, you should specify if it requires any particular care, how it should be washed or if it has any special characteristics such as being waterproof or fire retardant.
When decorating your outdoor area, do not forget that the seats of the garden chairs must also be comfortable. And don’t limit yourself to the seat. Fluffy back cushions can transform an uncomfortable chair into one you won’t want to get up from. Word.
Combining cushions is not an exact science. Your preferences have a lot to do with it. Of course, it will be much easier if you start by choosing a color or pattern as a base for the seat and backrest. From there, the decorative cushions will be in charge of creating contrast in your garden or terrace.
If the base is neutral, add plain and patterned cushions for color and vibrancy. In fact, most outdoor furniture that includes cushions is usually a neutral color, offering thousands of options to get that personal touch. On the contrary, if you choose a patterned base – with stripes, floral motifs, etc. – for the seat and back, it is preferable to choose plain textiles for the rest.
For a harmonious result, choose at most three different colors.
