A warm and cosy mountain cabin lined with wood and flannel

This mountain cabin that looks like the setting for a story could not be anywhere else but the Aran Valley. The person in charge is the interior designer Carmen Caubet, a lover of the area and its architectural customs. She put all her wisdom into practice at the service of a reform whose main task was to recover the original wood. Overvarnished, the pillars, beams, doors, and other woodwork were dark and old-fashioned. This is the story of how Carmen returned the light to them.

50 YEARS OF HEAT (AND WOOD)

This house is about 50 years old and was completely renovated a couple of years ago. All the original wood, fir or pine, was initially very dark. The sandblasting technique is applied, which leaves the wood as new, on the doors, ceilings, and windows. Behind the sofa, taking advantage of the hole under the cover, there is a custom-made bookcase that maintains the colour of the entire room.

THE BEST DECORATING ADVICE

The best thing is to follow a single line in the tones so that the whole house remains in a very harmonious range of colours. In this mountain house in Era Pleta, in the heart of Valle de Aran, we can verify it: beige and grey rule here and the result is super comfortable.

THE WARMTH OF WOOD

In addition to thoroughly clarifying the wood, Carmen’s team subjected it to a treatment based on special varnishes to prevent it from yellowing over time. In this way, she has achieved that where there was a dull brown and irregular shines, now there are clear and natural tones.

LIVING ROOM, DINING ROOM AND KITCHEN TOGETHER

After this intervention, the designer saw that she could choose light oak wood for the furniture and other details that she was going to introduce in her reform, such as the wide-slat oak floor that she used throughout the house and that makes it super cosy.

COOKING HERE IS A LUXURY

And we arrive, without any door or partition blocking the way, to the kitchen. It was made to measure in solid oak with an iron hood and a matching countertop, which is made of rustic Silestone.

A BEDROOM UPHOLSTERED IN FLANNEL!

The bedroom is fully upholstered with flannel, which provides great visual and physical warmth. In the main room, there is a small access to the terrace.
