Interior Design Trends for Kitchens and Bathrooms in 2018

If you are looking at interior design trends for 2018, it is worth mentioning that a lot of things have changed in the past several decades. The new emphasis on technology is just one example, and that can permeate any room in the entire house. However, if you are looking specifically at kitchen and bath remodeling, there are many styles that are considered outdated nowadays as more popular styles pave the way in 2018.

The kitchen wasn’t always the major focal point of interior design like it is today. It was just a room where food was prepared that was often hidden at the back of the house. Today, it is seen as the focal point of many homes. One major difference between the kitchen of decades ago in the kitchen of today is that technology can be integrated into every single function in the entire kitchen. Everything from the lighting to the refrigerator can be controlled by technology and smart gadgets. Additionally, when it comes to the colors of cabinets, white, gray, and dark cabinets are what are currently very popular.

There are old styles, such as mid-century modern and farmhouse, that are still somewhat popular, but they are becoming outdated nowadays. More simple and streamlined designs are becoming the norm in 2018 when it comes to kitchen remodeling. Additionally, quartz is still the most popular material when it comes to high-end countertops in the kitchen. However, softer and more neutral colors are becoming more popular, in contrast to particulate patterns. Kitchen storage is also becoming very popular because it is a better and more efficient way to store pots, pans, and appliances. Ceramic flooring is another feature that is becoming increasingly popular, as are single level multi-purpose kitchen islands. Kitchen islands were once an afterthought, but they are now becoming an incredibly popular feature.

When it comes to trends in bathroom design in 2018, it is first worth noting that bathrooms are getting smaller. This contributes to overall efficiency in the house, as less space in the bathroom leaves more space for other parts of the house. Every inch of these bathrooms is put to good use so that they are small while still luxurious and comfortable rather than cramped. Additionally, toilets are becoming high tech, with automatic lid openers, seat warmers, and even slow close features. Gold-tone and brass fixtures, seen as somewhat outdated in previous years, are making a comeback as well. Vanity lighting is also increasingly becoming the focal point when it comes to remodeling bathrooms, as are under counter appliances and underfloor heating systems. Organic undertones are becoming increasingly popular as well, although neutral styles and colors are remaining popular as they have been for a long time now. Unique tile shapes, as well as bold accents on the floors and walls, are becoming a major trend as well.

As you can see, there are very clear shifts when it comes to interior design in 2018 as it applies specifically to the kitchen and bathroom of the average home. Some trends remain timeless and are remaining popular as they have for decades now, but others are fading into obscurity while new trends become more prevalent. Interior design is likely going to continue changing after 2018, and it is very interesting to think about what is likely going to stay and what will likely go after a short time during this very exciting time in the field of interior design.
