Industrial Penthouse by houseUP

This family flat is located in an industrial warehouse in Shoreditch, now repurposed as a block of flats. The project scope is the renovation of the entire flat, which includes two bedrooms, a shower room and a big open plan kitchen-living room.

houseUP took the project on after the previous builders did a runner, after giving a very low quotation to win the bid.

We worked close with the owners, because they had initially created the designs themselves. They wanted to boost the industrial vibe of a New York loft. We achieved that by restoring original elements, like the red bricks and the huge ceiling beams. Great attention was dedicated to the original windows, made by small window panels and metal frames, which were cleaned, restored and re-painted in the original colors.

New elements added to the industrial style, like the several copper elements. Our teams crafted all of them on site, including connecting pipes for the radiators and the metal structure for the book shelves. In the shower room, the entire copper towel rack was crafted on site, as a bespoke element, together with the mirrored cabinet above the basin.

The shower room was decorated in Italian stucco by our decorator team; all the cabinets and wardrobes are bespoke, made to measure and style and assembled on site by our carpenters.

Together with the original windows and impressive red brick texture of the walls, the industrial style is reprized in the kitchen worktop. It is made of concrete, poured on site and then polished and sealed by our kitchen fitting team.

The result is stunning! The original features are perfectly balanced by the new elements. The old and the new go together, with no clash and no faking. This beautiful living space is the result of the collaboration and understanding between the clients and the working teams, with the goal to realize the owners’ expectations to the tiniest detail.

The pictures show how balanced and well thought the ensemble is, while the elements crafted on site are impressive, no matter how close you look.

Thanks to the perfect coordination between design and execution, this project made the cover photo of home renovation magazines, went viral on Reddit and the pictures are stolen every day by popular sites and blogs. In houseUP, we are proud of the mentions, but more proud of the happiness of our clients. After experiencing the pains of cowboy builders, it’s even nicer for us to be the ones who restored the trust and peace of mind for our clients and made the dream flat for them and their children.
